Abstract

The rising share of the female workforce is one of the distinctive features of the Korean job market. With the heavier burden of the childcare and the housekeeping work still on the shoulders of the working mothers, the employers need to meet the various demands for the work-life balance in addition to the original demands for the bottom-line performance. The concept of Dual Agenda epitomizes this two-fold pressure. Doing away with the inefficiency in the work process, the firms are able to earn better performance as well as better work-life balance. The planning and implementation of the Dual Agenda policy requires a careful change efforts the effect of which is not easily captured by the traditional research methods relying on psychometric survey or econometrics. Often, more active participation of the researcher is necessary to initiate and monitor the change process. Introduced by the researchers in the feminist studies, the CIAR (Collaborative Interactive Action Research) is recommended to capture the longitudinal dynamism of the change initiative. This paper explores the possible contribution of the CIAR in the Dual Agenda study. The summary on the key featues of the CIAR is followed by the various research challenges related with the method.
