Career Development in Association with Life-long Education: Focused on Asiana Airlines Case

Abstract
The objective of this study is to discuss the ways of career development in association with life-long education program in Korea. Career development is an important component area of human resource development. Its focus is organized, planned efforts comprised of life-time learning activities which result in mutual benefits between employee and organization. Reviewing the theories on career development as well as life-long education, their issues can be divided to four stages which Hall suggested. This paper analyzes the current status and problems of career development in terms of these four stages. Further, it suggests the practical implications for employees' career development in association with life-long education. The discussion focuses on several issues such as (1). competency-based career stage should be developed and incorporated into life-long training/education program. (2). various career management systems should be delivered to employees. Finally, the study discusses the further research directions on career development for employees including enhancing efficiency of career development and life-long education, stability of employment, self-actualization as well as social responsibility.
