Social PLM Framework for Co-creation Experience: Focused on the cases of P&G, InnoCentive and Quirky

Abstract
Previous studies related to PLM have suggested the efficiency for using internal resources for Product R&D. This study suggests the importance of firms’ social capital through collaborative participation for internal resources and external collaborators based on co-creation experience strategy. In the viewpoint of traditional PLM, various studies have focused on PLM Algorithm and internal PLM Process of manufacturing firms. Although the roles of social PLM have been more important, the advantages for social PLM and solution’s framework has not been studied sufficiently. Especially, It is important to find out the way to build close relationship among stakeholder for advantages for product R&D with social PLM. Therefore, this paper reviewed three cases, P&G Connect & Development, InnoCentive.com and Quirky, to find out functional elements of social PLM processes with solution strategy and guideline. Each case appeared decreasing R&D investment and increasing profits with adopting collective intelligence with social PLM co-creating product. Especially, Quirky case provided the potential and application for social PLM with social capital of product innovation on the web.
