A Study on the Management Improvement of the Port Service Industry

Abstract
The purposes of this study are to analyze the management status of the port service industry and to make some suggestions for the management rationalization. From the results of the quantitative business analysis, we found some problems such as small business size, continuous decline of the profitability, sudden decline of the growth. And from the results of the qualitative analysis, we found the problems such as price dumping behavior, inflexible labor supply system, low negotiation power toward the shipping company, and the low industry bonds. To rationalize the management of the port service industry, we provide following suggestions. First, port service companies should enlarge the company size through cooperation or M&A, make plans to improve the profitability, and heighten the sales volume. Second, they should not do price dumping behavior and recover the fair price competition rule. Third, it is necessary to improve the irrational cash flow structure and inflexible labor supply system, and to reinforce the negotiation power toward the shipping companies.
